THE WAY OF THE LAVENDER
Lavender is a crop that is both beautiful and useful. And, in some way, this site is both a tribute to the lavender plant and an information source about the farm. Here, between Kournas and Kavros we produce lavender oil, lavender tea, and lavender bags.
WHY A FARM? WHY LAVENDER?
When you downshift your lifestye it does not mean that you cease having goals in life. As soon as we arrived we set ourselves a number of goals and in the course of fulfilling them we acquired a whole new set - ones that will last at least a lifetime.
And one of the things we acquired was the will to be a Lavender farmer thanks to theintervention of one Petros Petrov head of the Souda Customs House. Excise men have payed a large part in our lives of late. .
We may no longer be paid vast wodges of cash for doing things but still we do plenty. And the killer is that this time around we enjoy it. Self actuating and self-fulfilling - that's the lavender farmer and her peasant's assistant (When applying to become a farmer the lady issuing the paperwork said to G, "So, at last, you have become a peasant". I guess that makes me a peasant's assistant.)

French. English. Lady. Latifolia. Angustifolia. Spicas. I don't really know I'm just waiting for G to fill this section.
THE ALL-PURPOSE FARM VEHICLE
In 2002 we acquired a Citroen DS safari that had had a scrape with the excise men in north London. The gallant boys at Retromobile cut her down - strengthened her up and she became that rarest of Goddesses - a DS pick-up truck. Perfect for our farm in Crete. She got a new working livery here in Kavros (courtesy of Giorgos Traitorakis) and serves The Lavender Way as a general purpose agrotiko (farm vehicle).
